DAWSON MP TURNS SOD ON NEW AEIOU FACILITY

Local families in the Townsville area raising children with autism are set to receive a significant support boost, with the AEIOU Foundation commencing construction on their new facility in the Northern end of the Dawson region.

Located at 31 Darcy Drive, Idalia, the new purpose-built centre will replace the existing facility in Kirwan, supported by a $2 million investment committed by the previous Coalition Government.

Hard working Federal Member for Dawson Andrew Willcox proudly committed the $2 million boost in 2022 as an election commitment, which has today been put to use, as the Dawson MP turned the first sod at the new site.

Labelling the new facility, a “vital community asset’, Andrew Willcox is welcoming the twelve additional places soon-to-be available at the centre, and the expanded capacity to support forty more children remotely.

“It’s amazing to be at the site of AEIOU’s new purpose-built centre, turning the first sod on this incredibly important project,” Andrew Willcox said.

“This facility will be state-of-the-art, providing much-needed early childhood, early intervention, and early education services to children with autism and their families in the Townsville region.

“AEIOU have always been an integral part of our Dawson community, and this $2 million expansion will ensure the team can continue to support children right around the area.

“These additional spaces will be vitally important, meaning more families can get the help they need to care for their children.

“In regional and rural areas, our children and families deserve access to services like this, to give them the support they need, and this new facility will ensure the Townsville area can meet those needs.

“Congratulations to AEIOU CEO Alan Smith and his team on this expansion.”
