In June 2023, with no warning, no industry consultation, and no opportunity for fishos to have their say, the State and Federal Labor Governments announced their ban of gillnet fishing.

Last week I once again spoke in Parliament about this ludicrous decision to ban the use of gillnets and how this will affect hundreds of fishing industry jobs in the electorate of Dawson. These bans will take 2,000 tonnes of fresh, wild caught fish out of our market, pushing up prices and leaving Aussies with no access to fresh local seafood.
