Dawson Students To Have Their Voice Heard

The “My First Speech” Competition for local Dawson students in years 10, 11 and 12 is now open!

The national competition is a great way to raise awareness of Federal Parliament, and is also an opportunity for young Australians to voice their opinion on a topic they feel is important to them.

“The My First Speech competition tasks students to write and record a 90 second speech on a topic they are passionate about, as if they are making their first speech in the House of Representatives,” Mr. Willcox said.

“It’s important that we support young Australians who are interested in politics and encourage the next generation to participate in our political processes.”

A panel of judges, which include Members of the House of Representatives, will choose a winner from each year group.

Winners will be flown to Canberra to present their speech, as well as participate in a program at Parliament House.

Submissions close at 5pm on Friday, 11 August 2023. More information can be found at aph.gov.au/myfirstspeech.
