Local Sporting Champs Making Dawson Proud
Successful applicants for Round 3 of the Federal Government’s Local Sporting program have been announced.
The Local Sporting Champions program provides financial assistance for coaches, officials and competitors aged 12-18 participating in state, national or international championships. Successful applicants will receive $500-$750 towards the cost of attending their championships.
Federal Member for Dawson, Andrew Willcox said that 38 local sporting champions have been successful from all over the electorate, including Idalia, Bowen, Annadale, Home Hill, Osborne, McDesme, Ayr, Farleigh, Oonoonba, Wulguru, Proserpine, Mount Julian, Strathdickie, Cannon Valley, Richmond and Mackay.
“These successful applicants are competing or have competed in sports including Basketball, Rugby Union, Touch Football, Golf, Sailing, Equestrian, Athletics, Softball, BMX, Netball, Surf Lifesaving and Cycling.
“I had the pleasure of meeting two of our Mackay successful grant recipients, Tyler and Bailey who travelled to Tasmania for the Auscycling BMX National Championships in November 2022. These boys did Dawson proud, as do all our local champs representing their sport and our local clubs.” Andrew Willcox said
As part of this Federal Program there is also the Local Para Champions program which provides financial assistance for coaches, officials and competitors aged 12-24 participating in state, national or international championships for athletes with a disability. Successful applicants receive $750-$1000 towards the cost of attending their championships.
“Whilst Dawson had no applicants apply for the Local Para Champions Program in this round, I am hopeful to see applicants in future rounds”.
“Round 4 of both programs are currently open and close on the 31 March 2023 and I encourage all eligible Dawson athletes to apply.” Andrew Willcox said
