NATIONAL CRIME CRACKDOWN

Federal Member for Dawson, Andrew Willcox and the Coalition will take unprecedented action to reduce crime and drugs with a comprehensive national plan. The Dawson community will directly benefit from $290,000 funding in local community safety projects.

The Coalition will crack down on crime from the border to the backyard, including:

• A new National Drug Enforcement and Organised Crime Strike Team.

• More funding for police and agencies to crack down on crime, drugs and child exploitation. • Stronger border screening to stop drugs at the border.

• Tough new laws to break up criminal syndicates.

• Additional funding to Crime Stoppers to expand their work.

• Double the funding for the Australian Centre to Counter Child Exploitation.

• Introduce a new National Child Sex Offenders Disclosure Scheme.

“Many people have raised concerns with me about the level of crime and drugs in our local area,” Federal Member for Dawson Andrew Willcox said.

“Our plan to combat drugs and crime will have a direct local benefit with an investment in local community safety upgrades including:

• $200,000 to upgrade security lighting in Mackay’s CBD and Waterfront areas

• $70,000 towards an early intervention Blue Edge youth program at Ayr

• $20,000 towards an early intervention youth program at Proserpine Youth Space

“The investment in law enforcement and Crime Stoppers will also help to keep people in our community safe and take real action to stamp out drugs, including date-rape drugs.”

“We have also committed to double funding for the Australian Centre against Child Exploitation and to create a new National Child Sex Offenders Disclosure Scheme to keep women and children safe.”

“The Coalition has a long-term plan to get Australia back on track,” Mr Willcox concluded.
