OLYMPIC GAMES LEGACY
The region of Dawson is set to hold two Olympic sporting events in 2032 in Mackay, Whitsundays and Townsville.
“I am excited to hear the announcement by Queensland Premier David Crisafulli at an event in Brisbane today and I thank him for listening and making this an Olympics for all of Queensland.” Federal Member for Dawson, Andrew Willcox said.
“Some of the world’s best cricketers will take to the field at Harrup Park in Mackay which is a great result.”
“Over 12 months ago I requested a Senate inquiry at Harrup Park along with Nationals Senator Matt Canavan to push for Cricket to be played in Mackay, now to see this become a reality, is really exciting.”
“The Whitsundays is also set to benefit with Olympic Sailing to take place along the picturesque shoreline and crystal blue waters.”
“Not only can spectators watch the sailing, they can visit one of the 74 beautiful islands, dive on the Great Barrier Reef and make the most of this holiday destination.”
“Townsville doesn’t miss out either with two Olympic events to be held with Sailing and Football.”
“From the first announcement that Queensland would play host to the Olympics, I have been committed to ensuring the Olympics come to life in my electorate of Dawson.”
“The legacy of the games will extend beyond competition and I look forward to the games.”
