SHOW SEASON KICKS OFF AROUND DAWSON

Show season has kicked off across Dawson today, and as I attend the Mackay show I want to celebrate the importance of these shows and what they mean for our communities, for our farmers, and for our industries.

People from all ages, and from all walks of life, enjoy attending their local show.

The young (and young at heart) look forward to fairy floss, the thrill of rides, or picking up showbags full of goodies, while other people enjoy the agricultural and industrial exhibits.

With a rich history dating all the way back to 1822, regional country shows are an integral part of Australian society, designed to encourage and grow our farming communities and the agricultural sector, and today that is just as important as ever.

Shows are a place for farmers to celebrate and showcase not only their produce, but current farming practices and technologies, hosting demonstrations and competitions, as well as to provide an opportunity for families and individuals to connect with others.

They also play an important role in supporting on-farm innovation, productivity, and profitability, while providing significant social and economic benefits to regional communities.

With the current political and economic climate, it is so important that if you can, you get out and show support for your local show, and all the businesses, operators and exhibitors involved.

Myself, and my team, will be showing our support for these shows by attending shows right across the electorate of Dawson, with show dates and locations listed below.

Mackay Show: Tuesday 18 to Thursday 20 June

Proserpine Show: Friday 21 to Saturday 22 June

Bowen Show: Tuesday 25 June

Burdekin Show: Wednesday 26 June

Townsville Show: Friday 28 June to Monday 1 July

We look forward to seeing you all there and joining in the fun and excitement.
