The Palaszczuk Labor Government play politics with our Road Safety
Federal Member for Dawson was shocked to hear the QLD Minister for Transport and Main Roads yesterday re-announce the ‘Bruce Highway – Goorganga Plains Upgrade’ project.
“I am appalled by QLD Labor’s ‘politics-before-people’ tactic, who are “using a 2018 Coalition Government commitment to run an ad hoc political campaign at the expense of the Dawson people.” Andrew Willcox said
The Federal Member for Dawson called out this ‘political spin’, highlighting his own efforts to obtain Federal Government funding in his Mayoral role, “When I was Mayor for Whitsunday Regional Council, I worked with the previous Federal Member for Dawson and successfully secured from the previous Coalition Government $12 million for Goorganga Plains and $29.6 million for Hamilton Plains flood mitigation under the Roads of Strategic Importance Program.”
“The Palaszczuk Labor Government constantly drops the ball when it comes to regional roads, these projects have just been sitting dormant on QLD Labor’s watch since 2018 with the Goorganga Plains funding and 2019 with the funding for Hamilton Plains.
“All this money already committed thanks to the previous Federal Coalition Government, yet our Labor QLD Government allow us year after year to be flooded in with residents unable to get to loved ones, unable to get to emergency services and supply trucks cut off, unable to reach us.”
Andrew Willcox MP has stood up for the people of Dawson, questioning where Labor’s plan is to flood mitigate Goorganga Plains, after nearly 5 years of ‘planning works’.
“Labor’s had 5 years to design and develop a plan to flood mitigate Goorganga Plains, yet in this new re-announcement they’re still seeking community consultation.”
Dawson MP Andrew Willcox said that the Palaszczuk Labor Government’s delivery speed for road projects in regional QLD is not up to scratch.
“It is clear here that this Palaszczuk Labor Government are unable to manage money and projects, and it is just not acceptable that we are constantly left behind by this Government.”
“We’ve seen year after year that this Government only prioritises the South East Corner and we are tired of it.”
Andrew Willcox MP detailed how this re-announcement was a poor attempt at winning over locals who are frustrated at the Palaszczuk Labor Governments inaction, the Premier and her Ministers need to realise we aren’t a silly bunch up here and this does not go un noticed.”
“I am calling on the Palaszczuk Labor Government to stop playing politics with our road safety and just get the job done – we deserve a State Government who prioritizes us all – not just the South East Corner.”
