WILMAR SUGAR STRIKE

Dawson is the sugar bowl of Australia and has served our communities very well over many decades.

Thousands of families are part of growing, harvesting, processing, transportation, cafés, schools, retail outlets – all of whom rely on our sugar cane product every year.

Without this industry, our communities will suffer.

I am extremely concerned regarding the length of time, the ongoing industrial dispute between Wilmar and those living in our community working tirelessly to ensure the product is processed has been going on.

I cannot stress enough that if both parties cannot come together and finalise the dispute, this will hurt the community, now and for years to come.

Wilmar have an obligation to its workers and the community.

I look forward to hearing of a positive outcome and seeing the sugar remain Australian grown.
