Minister Ducks Question About Dawson Power Prices
Federal Member for Dawson, Andrew Willcox on Thursday asked the Minister for Climate Change and Energy why North Queenslanders are paying for Labor’s broken promise to lower power prices by $275.
During Question Time, he brought to the parliament’s attention how an irrigated cane grower is Dawson has had an energy bill escalation of 126% in a 3 month period.
During the exchange, the Minister failed to recognise or accept responsibility for the energy bills that are increasing across the board.
Member for Dawson, Andrew Willcox said he was disappointed by the Minister’s apathy.
“An irrigated cane grower’s power bill in the Burdekin has escalated by 126% in the last three months. That’s $105 per hectare per month. I brought this example to the floor of Parliament during Question Time and asked the Minister for Climate Change and Energy why my people are the ones having to pay,” Mr Willcox said.
“The response from the Minister was apathetic and dismissive. I was appalled. Do they realise this crisis is only getting worse?
“I think people in Dawson, and right across this country want to see less politicking and more solutions that will make a difference in their budgets. Energy is rapidly becoming unaffordable.
“This Government seem to be getting caught up in self-congratulations on energy, rather than immediately addressing the rising energy bills that are crippling industry and households right across Dawson.”
