LNP COMMIT $50,000 TO MASONIC CENTRE
An elected LNP Government will commit $50,000 in funding to the Mackay Masonic centre to provide a much-needed upgrade.
Federal Member for Dawson, Andrew Willcox, said the building is a heritage listed site in Mackay that offers self development, mentoring and mateship operated by the Freemasonry.
“The building is in desperate need of some upgrades as the current electrical switchboard is full of asbestos and the roof is leaking.” Federal Member for Dawson, Andrew Willcox said.
“A Dutton LNP government will commit $50,000 to two new electrical switchboards and roof upgrades.”
Mackay Masonic Centre Chairman Bill Boyd said, “The property has been owned by Mackay Freemasons for 100 years but we want to see to it that we hold it in trust for the people of the town far into the future,”
“Like any building, particularly in the tropics, it requires constant maintenance, and the safety of all users is paramount so upgrading the electricity system is core business.”
“Lasting repairs to the roof are essential and the façade has deteriorated in the weather and its refurbishment is part of the main maintenance program. All this work is beyond the means of Mackay Freemasons and we look to government to assist with what we believe is important work for the benefit of the city of Mackay.
“The funding commitment will ensure the building is up to a safe standard so the Masonic Centre can continue to serve the community well into the future.”
